Menace 2 – Lack of communication
Communication is the most important process in people life in general and learner’s distance learning in particular.
Communication is the basis and integral part of all the learner’s activities in all spheres of life including distance learning.
In fact, 93% of human communication is thought to be nonverbal (Mehrabian, & Ferris, 1967).
Further on, it takes just one tenth of a second to judge someone and this is usually based on what you see (Wargo, 2006).
It means that whether you’re aware of it or not, when you interact with others, you’re continuously giving and receiving wordless signals (Segal, Smith, Robinson, and Boose, 2023).
Another important aspect of communication is etiquette. Without appropriate manners in online class, communication lacks its structure.
In turn, ethics in communication shapes the content of communication.
Therefore, communication in distance learning is threatened by
- Inappropriate non-verbal communication
- Non-followed etiquette
- Non-ethical communication.
